We met with the talented Korean director Seungjun Yi at Sheffield Doc/Fest to discuss his latest film Planet of Snail, his experiences filming his blind and deaf subject, Young-Chan, as well as the current state of the Korean documentary industry.

The film’s title is explained in Young-Chan’s own words:

“I come from planet of snail where people communicate by touching each other. We call ourselves “snails” because we cannot hear or see and our lives are as slow as the snails. Now I live on earth where time runs so fast which makes me hard to follow the life of the earthmen.”

Planet of Snail is now on release in the UK.
